Russ Jowell
As the saying goes "I wasn't born in Oklahoma, but I got here as fast as I could!"
Russ was born in Houston, TX and raised in Sugar Land, TX, so named for the iconic Imperial Sugar factory located there. He graduated from Hightower High School in 2003, where he got his first taste of broadcasting through the school's Broadcasting Career Academy. After starring in a music video and anchoring a few school newscasts, Russ decided that he liked TV so much that he would make a career out of it and enrolled at Texas Christian University in August of 2003 as a Radio-TV-Film major. He tried to keep pretty busy between classes, serving in the House of Student Representatives, the Leadership Council, and working as a Production Assistant for the campus TV Studio. Russ interned for the show Hot On Homes in Dallas and for KHOU-TV in Houston and also attended the Travel Channel Academy after college where he got a crash course in travel filmmaking and digital journalism.
Russ is most excited about getting to meet all the unique people who make this state great! People with new ideas, people with great ideas, people with dreams, people with causes, people who other people think are crazy. It always inspires him to tell the story of someone who is making a difference in their community and taking steps to change the world, no matter how big or small that step may be!
