Rob: China and the U S have a large, often unwieldy, trade relationship that's hard to summarize in just 30 seconds. But here I go. The choices about our economic relationship with China are often presented as absolutes: either you're an enlightened "free trader" who wants to engage China and provide Americans with cheap products, or, you're a jingoistic "protectionist" who seeks to shore up unproductive industries and simply close our eyes to a changing world. But in reality, neither label is either helpful or accurate. In fact, we're as dependent upon China as they are us. Still, free trade isn't necessarily fair trade. China is the economic version of the proverbial 800-pound gorilla in the room that we ignore at our own peril. I'm Rob McClendon. Thanks for watching. See you soon.
